I disagree with all of them. Most importantly the discouragement of higher education.

What JW belief/idea do you disagree with the most ???
by run dont walk inis there a particular belief/doctrine that really burns you up and makes you wonder how people could believe this, and did you as a loyal jw at one time believe in it (your most hated belief), what made you change your mind ???.
for me, i always enjoy reading the history of the watchtower (1879-1974), and how things constantly change from year to year.
the sodom and gomorrah question is hilarious .

I have been away from JWs for 20 years, after having grown up as one, a pioneer and ministerial servant. I have rebuilt my life, am very happy and have a wife and three kids who never were part of JW. I have moved back into the town I grew up in. I do not get into any discussions with JWs, because I know all to well how they think. When they come to my door, I am always polite ( having been there) but never allow myself to get into a discussion, knowing that they could never understand.
I am curious to know of all of your experiences with this.

Has Anyone been "Spotted" or "Reported" for being here?
by In_between_days inhas anyones jw friends or family ever spotted anyone on here who shouldnt be and reported you or confronted you?
how did they work out it was you?
how did you take it, and if you were in good standing at the time, what counsel did you receive?

why should any of us care if they know?
By caring if they know, we are giving them the same old "power" over us that they held when we were JWs.
who cares what they think ( we already know what they think) it is what WE think now that matters.

First day at work!
by maybesbabies inwell, i had my first day at work today, hungover from too much wine at an art showing i went to, but otherwise did ok!
this place seems pretty awesome so far!!!!!
we get free lunch catered everyday, my co-workers are totally fun, the bank in the plaza offers freebies and benefits for employees of our company (zeeba surgical), and the salon downstairs offers discounts!!!

This is the GOOD elder thread
by jwbot inwell, after thinking about all the bad experiences, i just wanted to know, did you know any good elders, and what were they like?
probably unconventional, right?
one of the only elders i knew that i truly thought was a wonderful person is my father.

hey JWBOT,
Your dad must be very proud of you . I have a daugther and would would hope she thinks of me the way your thread reads .
I thought very highly of my Dad when he was an Elder also. We left the "truth" 20 years ago, and when dad passed on in March, not one of the former Elders ( or anyone else from the JW days) even called my mother for support, much less attended his service. Hard, callous people.

The boring and uneventful lives of a JW
by YellowLab ini faded as a jw about 8 years ago.
to me the meetings were just plain boring as hell and so "robotic".
i never did feel true love amongst the brothers and sisters as they always like to tout.

I had a similar experienc. Raised in the JW faith and broke away 20 years ago---life is great!
built a new life with a non JW wife and 3 kids! All the holidays are fun!
It was not easy to get away, but once i was free of them my life blossomed!

Keep on knocking and the door shall open
by JH injesus said these words thousands of years ago meaning that if you insist, finally things will work out for you.
he also meant to pray to god continuously in order to receive.
praying or not, did you have the impression that by knocking continuously that things finally worked out for you in life or did you find that the door remained closed no matter what?

It has been my experience that if I consistantly work at something I will achieve it. It is not neccessarily a spiritual issue. Perseverence pays off. I suppose survival from the JWs had a lot to do with my keeping a positive mental attitude and constantly telling myself I would get through this and be ok. It worked

Is it Time For Watchtower Begging Again?
by metatron inalas, some expensive witness traditions have ended - like food service at assemblies or mailed subscriptions.. however, since 1996, the society has had a tradition of begging for money in the november watchtower.. i think they hope rich witnesses will think about re-balancing their portfolios or making changes before the end.
of the taxable year in december.. .
lawyers and new printing facilities ( to be on-line in 2005) cost a lot of money, so look for their appeal soon.. .

my recollection of the WTBTS was that it functioned in a fully capitalist manner--namely it was OK for them to be materialistic about financial pursuits (i.e. investments, cash flow financial returns, etc) they functioned as a corporation and are entitled to all the financial rewards. The real estate that they sit on in Brooklyn NY is worth literally hundreds of millions of dollars. Of course, those JWs who have "means" are most likely expected to contribute their share...and the WTBTS has no shame when it came to money...the pat answer was always "jehovah will provide"

Another Poztate here
by Poztate ini am a long time lurker who is finally ready to talk.i am not dfd or da but just walked out on a meeting back in 1981?
?what caused it???.
it was the flip flop in the disfellowshipping rules regarding family.
-
franklin J
welcome, poztate,
I am also new here and have been out for about 20 years also----I left and NEVER looked back. and never regretted. They are all sad people. And if they do not want to help themselves there is not much we can do for them.

Do You Live For Today or Do You Focus On The Future???
by minimus inme-----i live to enjoy my life today.
tomorrow, i could be dead....and you??
?

I have learned to live for today and plan and prepare for tomorrow. Big difference. When I was a JW, life was so very restricted.
